Every yard always has something you have to mow around. It is the most annoying thing, the 3-point turn, don’t hit the mower deck, tires tore up the grass, messed with your laser stripes, and now you still have to weed whip around the dumb thing too. Sometimes it is moveable, like a fire pit, but other times you are mowing around a well, clothesline, or stump. Dumb stump, it's been there since you moved in, but you have always mowed around it. It seems like a daunting task to get rid of, and how do you even do it? Videos on youtube only show chains breaking as people pull at stumps with their trucks, so you drill holes in them, pour stump kill down, light it on fire, and set charcoal on top, yet still, every summer you have to mow around it.

Every stump is different, but we have the right equipment to tackle the job! Our large skid loader has the hydraulic flow and horsepower necessary to take down the monsters. The sharp teeth take large cuts, quickly moving through the wood, and the “over the top” position of the grinder allows great visibility. The problem is with all that power comes to a lot of weight, so we have equipped our machine with wide flotation tracks to minimize soil disturbance and lawn compaction. We always bring the bucket along, making quick work of the excess chips left after a stump grinding operation.

A skid loader is a great tool, but it is not a universal problem solver. It is wide, not allowing access into tight backyards where some stumps hide. That is where our sub-compact tractor comes in! During the weekend the tractor plays lawnmower, gracefully gliding over green turf, but during the week she is all business, slinging dirt and chips from the 3-point stump grinder. With the tractor, the only lawn disturbance is from the grinding operation itself. Its narrow width and light weight allow it access to backyards and lake properties that larger machines cannot reach. It too has a bucket on the front, letting us quickly clean up the grinding area, making it appear that a stump was never there!

As with every excavation project, local utilities need to be marked out to avoid costly or sometimes life-threatening problems. We always work directly with the locate company, marking out the grinding location to ensure we do not cut any utilities during the work. Rarely, a stump is directly over utilities, as most trees have been growing long before the utilities were put in, but it is possible. Even if the stump is directly over a power line, there are still options we can use to get your stump out of the yard! We can use a tool called an Air Spade. All an air spade does is shoot high-pressure air out of the end, blowing away any dirt, but not cutting through any roots or cables. Once we locate the intruding utility, careful cutting of the root system and some light lifting will eventually get the stump out of the ground in a whole piece. It makes quite a mess and takes a lot of time to perform properly, but the final result is wonderfully straight mowing lines, not having to worry about the stump again!

Whatever your stump grinding/removal needs are, you can be assured that we have the equipment and knowledge to get the job done! Stop barking up the wrong tree, Text or Call us today! 320-321-3677
